HOWBIZ INDUSTRY analysts - along with online forum fans - are always keen to see how movies perform, both on their opening weekend and over the entire run of their release.
With that in mind, there's a lot of anticipation to see how new films in any franchise - such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine - will rank against the previous releases in the series.
There is an increasing emphasis on the launch weekend of a movie; films are said to be 'frontloaded', achieving a hefty proportion of their gross takings on those first opening days. It's rather like the music charts, where an immediate leading position is the trend, and desired result, rather than a low entry and slow climb as happened in the past.
Recently, I looked at how Wolverine fitted into the franchise compared with other X-Men films and other superhero movies in general, using the available USA figures.
But what about here in the UK? There are no readily-available published statistics so, with the help of the UK Film Council, I present to you the official and exclusive UK superhero showdown.
The figures (which you can see below) span nearly ten years so I have adjusted them all for inflation to current financial equivalents to make them comparable.
The results offer some interesting facts that are worth a mention.
